Decor Elements Project

It's been a while since I had a post...I wanted to show you something I created using Decor Elements. This is the black chandelier and I absolutely love it! I have been wanting a simple black chandelier hanging above my bed for a long time, but since I'm living in a rental, that just doesn't make sense. So this is what I came up with. I hope you like it! The chandelier itself wouldn't fit in a standard frame size, so I had to get a little creative. I went to the hardware store and picked up the materials for the frame, I just got some inexpensive moulding and a piece of clear acrylic plastic. The store wouldn't cut the plastic for me, so what we did was use the frame to cover up the extra plastic so it looked like the size I wanted.
I'm no frame-maker so I just used some way strong glue and glued the pieces together! Hey, it works!
Enjoy!

Halloween Treats

For Halloween at work all the employees can bring their kids and grandkids to and have them trick or treat around the building. Well I decided I wanted to make some treat bags for the kids (I was feeling ambitious). Also I figured there wasn't a better excuse than that to use up some of my Halloween paper and rub-ons. I was going to be pretty sad if I didn't use those adorable rub-ons. They are so cute!
I just used the scallop square die cut, a round punch and the scallop circle punch, rub ons, and Cast-A-Spell designer series paper. Stapled onto the medium (I think) cellophane bags. Yes, I was up very late...but they were SOOO easy! You can see from the picture that there were basically 2 designes, the ones that use the "treats" rub-on and the ones that use the "spooky" rub-on. For the spooky ones I literally just rubbed on the image and then inked the paper with either black craft ink or the old olive craft ink. I just mixed and matched pumpkin pie, elegant eggplant, basic black and old olive cardstock which coordinated perfectly with the Designer Series Paper.
They were really quick to make, the thing that took the longest was deciding the design!
Happy Halloween!

Getting Crafty

I only used one Stampin' Up! item on this project...but I just HAD to show you all! I'm thinking about adding some other embellishments from the From the Crypt stamp set, but we'll see. P.S. I wanted the text and the pictures in the reversed order, but we got a new version of explorer at work and I thnk it's preventing me from copying and pasting so I'm a little irritated. So you get to see the pics first.

These are the pumpkins before they were painted. I also painted a couple gourdes.
Here are the clay pots and saucers.

And voila! The finished product. I wish you could see some of the details. Like the rhinestones and the bronze and the glitter.

This is a close up of one of the pots. The only Stampin' Up! thing I used was the striped ribbon, and I think it turned out adorable!

Here's the backside...it even looks great from that angle.

So yesterday at work my good friend Amanda was telling me that while she was out sick last week she was watching Studio 5 and they were talking about how Halloween is all about the glam now rather than being scary. They were demonstrating how to make your own glam Halloween by making your own mercury glass-looking pumpkins. I totally LOVE mercury glass. If you're not sure what that is, it's okay. Basically it looks like silver, but it's not solid, it has different colors and textures and patterns and has an old vintage type look. Anyhow, I went to the store and bought some of those fake, carvable pumpkins because I didn't want to go through all that work using real ones just to have to throw them away later. (P.S. I looked everywhere online for them to get an idea of the cost and found them for 60% off at Michaels!) Then stopped at Home Depot for some spray paint. Here's how you do it (click here for the Studio 5 video):

You spray your pumpkins silver, and while it's still wet, spray it with a brown (I picked a metalic bronzey color). The video says to get some brown craft paint and flick it on there to add dimension and spotting, but I tried it and didn't love the look so I skipped that part. And that's it! It seriously took no time at all! I just got a box and stuck everything in there I wanted to spray and that was that. The bronze color doesn't show up very well on camera, but I was so pleased with how they turned out. Some of the smaller pieces really look realistic!
To glam it up even more I got some stick on rhinestones (only $1 per package) and decorated some of the pumpkins and pedestals with them (also hard to see on camera). Oh, and I made the 3 pedestals too using small terra cotta pots and saucers. So inexpensive (cost me less than $5.75 for all three) and easy. I just spray painted them with the same technique and then used some tacky glue to glue them together (I tried hot glue, but it didn't stick). For even more sparkle I added a few glittery skulls and my own silver candle sticks. I also wanted to spray paint some skeleton bones I found at the store as well to add a spooky touch, but I only have so much money. :) So I think I'll go to the store right after Halloween and see if I can get them way cheap for next year. You could also add some fake gems, feathers, flowers, leaves, etc. to fill up the table even more with different textures.

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who came to the My Digital Studio Presentation last week. I'm planning on holding one in Salt Lake sometime soon, so watch for that!

More MDS

So I'm going to keep posting projects I made on My Digital Studio (MDS). Since I'm spending the day on the couch...

This card would be perfect for a hybrid project. Hybrid meaning you create a digital project, have it printed, and then add physical embellishments. On this card I would add an Old Olive button to the largest snowflake. Wouldn't that be so cute?

RSVP Today to my Halloween Stamp Camp!

Check out the flier I created with Stampin' Up's new digital scrapbooking software called My Digital Studio. I'm having a Stamp Camp on September 26th in Layton and also one on September 29th in Salt Lake City. Just tell me by the 18th which projects you would like to make.

First we have the Spooky Spider Jar using the Spooky Spider Decor Elements. This jar will be adorable to hold all your Halloween candy! I provide the Spider and the jar. The cost for this project is $28.

Next is the wood "BOO" sign. I don't have an exact measurement on the height of the letters, but the base is 12 inches long, and the letters are probably 4 inches high. We'll just use paper to cover them and ribbon for embellishments. The great thing is these letters slide out so for Christmas we'll be making "JOY" letters! The cost for this project is $14.

Last is a set of 2 of each of the cards and treat bag you see below. The card on the far right features the new Sweet Centers stamp set and the new Treat Cups! The cost for this project is $12. However if you would like to make extra (or only) treat bags they are $1 each. Just let me know how many you'll want.

Have a friend sign up to make a project and you'll receive $5 off your own total!

Click on the flier to view a larger image.

Just send me an email or give me a call with the projects you're making and let me know which day you would like to attend. Remember, if you dont' RSVP I won't have enough projects ready!

Stampin' Blog

"That's it," I thought to myself. "If all these people can have adorable stamping blogs, then so can I!"

So here it is, my Stampin' Up! blog. We'll see how it goes...I'll be posting pictures, instructions, new products, specials, promotions, links, etc. Check back soon!
